IRMO Brief 12/2022 - The Best Way to Make Use of a Crisis: The EU Changes Regarding the Crisis in Ukraine

Starting a text with a stereotype is a stereotype, so why not start with a stereotype? Jean Monnet, a founding father of the EU, said that Europe will be forged in crisis, and will be the sum of the solutions adopted for those crises. One of the consequences of the former crises is that the EU is acting faster than before. Not the speed of authoritarian states, like some from the political radical right and left would like. This speed shows an understanding of the threats, even for the future of the EU.

This speed preserves the procedures and rights of each member state. than three months after it was proposed is an example of it. Borrell himself said that in three months, record time, the Mission is agreed and operational.
