Five biggest challenges and threats for the functioning and the legitimacy of the European Union from the perspective of Croatia

Introduction

Croatia has benefited from the membership in the EU in the past eight years and accession has largely boosted not just Croatian economy, but its political stability, and along with NATO membership, further strengthen its national security. Notwithstanding, Croatia as a member of the EU shares most of the challenges and threats that the rest of the Union faces. These threats could affect the functioning of the EU, and undermine its legitimacy in the continent and globally, with direct impacts on Croatia as a member of the EU. This paper aims to look into the five biggest challenges and threats facing the EU, from Croatia’s perspective, divided in 5 points.
