Roundtable Series: The Future of Europe: The Role of the EU in the World Southeast Europe: Competing

On April 22nd 2021 the Hanns Seidel Foundation and IRMO organised a virtual event: “Southeast Europe: Competing Visions, Competing Interests”.  

Is there an alternative to the EU accession? Are the relationships of the WB countries with other big powers disrupting the relationship with the EU? Are young democracies resilient enough to remain on the path of Europeanization? What strategy/steps should the think-tanks undertake to preserve the support for the political, economic and social transformation encompassed by the EU conditionality?

The aim of a half-day conference is to discuss these questions with relevant think-tanks from countries of the Stabilisation and Association Process (SAP) and other relevant stakeholders in the EU. A reflection paper will be produced with implementable suggestions for the activities of the think-tanks related to raising awareness of the importance of the EU accession.
