Diplomacy and Communication in Times of Crisis

The International Scientific Conference "Diplomacy and Communication in Times of Crisis -DIPCOM" was held from April 19 to 22, 2023 in Hotel Neptun on the islands of Brijuni, Croatia. The conference is organized by the Zagreb Office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Faculty of Political Science of Zagreb University.

In the past decade, the world has faced numerous crises, including financial, migrant, pandemic and the most recent crisis, an armed conflict on the European continent. The ways of dealing and coexisting with crises have changed, however the attempt to find diplomatic solutions and communication with the same goal remained constant.

The conference addressed questions such as: Is it possible to find a diplomatic solution in the context of the latest crisis that has once again shaken the world order? Can diplomacy provide answers to the open questions of an armed conflict that directly or indirectly involve almost all world actors? How does diplomacy change in crisis conditions? How to communicate in crisis at an individual and thes tate level? What are the specifics of crisis communication and its language, and how to protect the most vulnerable participants in public communication? How important is communication in modern diplomacy?

The conference will bring together experts from the fields of international relations, diplomacy, information and communication sciences, politicians, diplomats, journalists, young researchers and representatives of student media.
